The bar-to-dip transition that proves you own the bar.

Pull high and fast then turn over quickly, hesitation at the top stalls the whole rep.
The bar muscle up is a full pulling chain firing at maximum speed, with the lats hauling your chest to the bar and then pulling you around it into the dip. The biceps assist through the pull and the wrist turnover, gripping and steering while the back produces the power. It sits at the top of the bodyweight pulling ladder because it demands strength, timing and aggression in one rep.
A useful benchmark is a set of strict pull-ups with your chest touching the bar, plus solid straight bar dips. If your pull stalls at chin height, build higher pull-ups and explosive kipping first.
Almost always a slow or late turnover. Pull the bar to your lower chest, then throw the shoulders forward over the bar in one motion. Coming over one arm at a time, the chicken wing, means the pull was not high enough.
They are hard in different ways. The rigid bar demands a higher, more explosive pull and a sharper turnover, while rings allow a false grip and a smoother transition but punish instability. Most gymnasts find rings first, most CrossFitters find the bar first.
