Side-glute burner with constant cable tension.

Stay tall and don't lean. Let the glute do the work, not your hip swing.
With the cuff on your outside ankle, sweeping the leg away from your body loads the glutes on the side of your hip, the muscles responsible for keeping your pelvis level every time you stand on one foot. One leg works at a time against the cable's smooth, constant pull, no machine seat and no momentum to hide behind. Strong abductors show up everywhere, from squat knee tracking to running gait.
Light. The side glutes move through a short range with a long lever, so a modest stack with strict form burns plenty. Piling on weight just recruits torso lean and hip hike, which is exactly what the exercise is meant to remove.
You are leaning away to hoist the leg, or letting it drift forward as it lifts. Stay tall, brace lightly, and sweep the leg directly sideways with the toes facing forward. Range you cannot do strictly is not range worth having.
The machine is easier to load heavy and fine for volume. The standing cable version adds a balance job for the planted side and mirrors how the muscle actually works when you are on your feet. Both have a place.
