How to do it

  1. Lie on your side and prop up on your bottom forearm, elbow under shoulder.
  2. Stack your feet and lift your hips off the floor.
  3. Form a straight line from head to heels.
  4. Hold for time, then switch sides.

The one cue that matters

Drive your hips up and keep them there. Don't let your bottom hip dip toward the floor.

Muscles worked

The Side Plank isolates the Core — no passengers. That makes it a clean tool for adding targeted core volume without extra fatigue.

FAQ

What muscles does the Side Plank work?

The Side Plank primarily works the Core.

How long should I hold it?

Start with sets you can hold with perfect position, even if short. Add a few seconds each session; quality beats clock-watching.

One side at a time?

Yes, it's a unilateral movement. Start with your weaker side and match the reps with your stronger side so no side gets ahead.
