How to do it

  1. Set a barbell in a landmine and grip the top end with both hands at chest height.
  2. Stand with feet wide and arms extended, core braced.
  3. Sweep the bar across your body in an arc to one side.
  4. Control it back through center and over to the other side.

The one cue that matters

Rotate from your trunk and pivot your hips, keep your arms long the whole arc.

Muscles worked

Sweeping the bar across your body on its fixed arc puts your obliques and deep trunk muscles in charge of both driving the rotation and braking it at each end. The anchored bar path keeps the load honest, you cannot drift or swing it wide, so the trunk has to produce and control every degree of the turn. It earns its place as controlled rotational strength work, the foundation before faster moves like the landmine 180.

FAQ

Should landmine rotations be fast or slow?

Slow and owned first. This is the movement where you learn to rotate from the trunk while your hips pivot, once the arc is clean and your arms stay long, you can graduate to explosive versions.

Why do my shoulders burn during landmine core rotations?

Your arms are held long at chest height the whole set, so some shoulder fatigue is normal, but it should not be the main event. If it is, lighten the bar and check that the sweep is coming from your trunk, not your arms pushing across.

Where should I stand relative to the landmine for rotations?

Face the anchor point with feet wider than shoulders, far enough back that your arms extend comfortably at chest height. Standing too close cramps the arc, too far turns it into a front raise fight.
