How to do it

  1. Set the pulley to elbow height and stand side-on to the machine.
  2. Grab the handle with your near hand and raise that elbow to shoulder height, bent 90 degrees.
  3. Keeping the elbow fixed, rotate your forearm down and across toward your belly.
  4. Return slowly to the start without letting the elbow drop.

Move only at the shoulder, keep the elbow pinned at 90 the entire set.

With your elbow raised to shoulder height and bent at 90 degrees, rotating the forearm down and across trains your shoulder's internal rotators in the elevated position where pressing and throwing actually happen. It's the natural partner to external rotation at 90, working the opposite direction from the same arm angle, one side at a time. It earns its place for overhead athletes and dedicated pressers who want the cuff strong in the position it gets tested, not just by their ribs.

FAQ

How is this different from regular cable internal rotation?

Same rotation, different arm position. With the elbow up at shoulder height, the cuff works in the overhead-adjacent posture used in pressing and throwing, which the elbow-at-side version never touches.

Why does this feel so much harder than the standard version?

Holding the elbow up while rotating is a stability challenge in itself, and the cuff is weaker in that raised position. Go lighter than your by-the-side internal rotations and treat shaky reps as a sign to drop the pin.

Should the movement be fast or slow?

Slow both ways, especially the return. The controlled trip back against the cable is half the training effect, letting the stack snap your arm back is how cuff work turns into cuff damage.
