A power clean started from blocks to drill the top pull.

Stay patient over the bar until extension, then pull yourself under fast.
Starting from blocks at knee height cuts the lift down to its most explosive segment, the second pull. Without the slow grind off the floor, your quads, hips and glutes have to generate everything from a dead start at the knee, with the shoulders finishing the pull. It is a favourite for fixing a lazy top-end finish and for getting explosive work in when full cleans are beating you up.
The blocks isolate the explosive part of the pull and remove the first pull entirely. That means more quality reps at high intent, less fatigue, and no chance to hide a weak finish behind floor speed.
Around knee height is the classic setting. Higher blocks bias pure explosiveness with less time to accelerate, lower blocks bring it closer to a full clean.
Different. The bar has no momentum when you start, so the finish has to be brutal, but you skip the hardest positional demands of pulling from the floor. Most lifters handle slightly less weight from blocks.
