How to do it

  1. Stand holding the dome with both hands, flat side up.
  2. Drop into a squat, plant the dome, and kick your feet back into a plank gripping its edges.
  3. Hop your feet back in toward the dome and stand, pressing the dome overhead.
  4. Lower it and immediately flow into the next rep.

The one cue that matters

Keep your core braced in the plank so the unstable dome doesn't wobble you sideways.

Muscles worked

This burpee uses the dome as the equipment, squat down and plant it, kick back into a plank gripping its edges, hop in, then stand and press the dome overhead to finish. The quads power the squat, the kick-back, and the drive to standing, with the glutes extending the hips on every stand-up, and the wobbling plank sneaks in core work between the leg efforts. It earns its place as a full-circuit conditioning move built around one piece of kit.

FAQ

What makes a balance trainer burpee harder than a regular burpee?

The plank happens on a wobbling dome held by its edges, and every rep finishes with an overhead press of the trainer itself. More instability, more range, more work per rep, at the same breathless pace.

Flat side up or down for the burpee?

You start holding the dome flat-side up, plant it, and grip the edges for the plank phase. Keep your hands wide on the edges and your weight centred so it does not tip during the kick-back.

How do I pace balance trainer burpees?

Slower than regular burpees, at least at first, the wobble punishes sloppy transitions. Sets of 5 to 10 clean reps with the plank held rigid beat racing to 20 with sagging hips and a tipping dome.
