How do I structure leg day?

Open with a heavy squat or press, then a hinge for hamstrings and glutes, then quad, hamstring, and calf isolation.

The quick answer

Lead with your most demanding compound while fresh, a squat or leg press, for 3 to 4 sets of 6 to 10. Follow with a hip hinge like Romanian deadlift for hamstrings and glutes, then add quad isolation such as leg extensions, hamstring isolation like leg curls, and finish with calf raises. That order covers quads, hamstrings, glutes, and calves and keeps the heavy work when you have the most energy.

How to think about it

Heavy compound first

Put the squat, hack squat, or leg press at the start when your legs are fresh, since it demands the most and drives the most growth. Work 3 to 4 sets of 6 to 10 with real load here.

Balance quads and hamstrings

Squats hit quads and glutes hard but under-train the hamstrings. Add a Romanian deadlift or leg curl so the back of your legs keeps pace, which also protects your knees and builds a complete look.

Isolate and finish with calves

After the compounds, use leg extensions for quads and leg curls for hamstrings to add targeted volume. Calves get neglected, so end with 3 to 4 sets of calf raises taken close to failure with a full stretch.
