How do I stop comparing myself to stronger lifters?

Compare only to your own logbook; those stronger lifters have years on you, and their numbers say nothing about your progress.

The quick answer

The only fair comparison is you versus your past self. The person out lifting you likely has years of training and different genetics and leverages, so their numbers are irrelevant to whether you are improving. Track your own lifts and celebrate beating last month. Everyone strong in that gym was once the weakest person there.

How to think about it

Measure against your logbook

Progress is your bench going from 40kg to 50kg, not matching the guy benching 140. Your own trend line is the only scoreboard that reflects your effort and recovery.

Context you cannot see

Training age, height, limb length, and years of consistency all shape someone's numbers. Comparing your month three to their year six is meaningless.

Use strong lifters as a resource

Instead of feeling small, ask them a question or watch their setup. Most are happy to help, and it turns envy into learning.
