Off your knees and onto your feet, pure single-leg power.

Power the whole thing from the front heel. Don't use your hands to push off your thigh.
Driving from a half-kneel to standing on one front leg is a pure single leg push, the quad extends the knee while the glute extends the hip and keeps the pelvis level. Because you cannot rock or bounce out of the bottom, each rep is honest concentric strength from a dead start. It earns its place as a lunge progression for beginners, a get-off-the-floor skill that matters for life, and a sneaky quad burner even without load.
It builds single leg strength from a dead stop and trains the very practical skill of getting off the floor without hands. It is also a friendly entry point to lunging because the bottom position is stable and supported.
Bracing your hands on your leg offloads the exact muscles you are trying to train. Keep your arms free and drive purely through the front heel, if you cannot, shorten the sets until you can.
Hold a weight at your chest, slow the lowering back to the kneel, or lead with your weaker leg for extra reps. A soft pad under the knees also lets you focus on power instead of discomfort.
