Lunge forward, rotate over the front leg. Mobility plus glutes.

Rotate from your mid-back over a stable front knee, don't let the knee cave in.
This combines a forward lunge with a torso rotation over the front leg, so your glutes are loading and stabilising while your mid-back opens up. Working one leg at a time, the front-side glute has to hold the knee steady against both the lunge and the twist, with the quads assisting the drive back to standing. It earns its spot in warm-ups and mobility blocks because it hits hip strength, balance and thoracic rotation in one clean movement.
Rotate toward your front leg, so left leg forward means twisting left. That direction opens the front hip and mid-back together, which is the mobility payoff of the exercise.
You are letting the rotation drag the knee along for the ride. Plant the front foot, keep the knee tracking over the toes, and rotate from your mid-back only as far as the knee stays quiet.
Mostly a warm-up and mobility drill, and a very good one before leg day or sport. Done slowly for reps it also works as light glute and balance training, especially holding a light weight at your chest.
