Loaded split stance, jump for explosive air.

Absorb each landing with a soft, controlled descent before exploding again.
Loading a split squat with dumbbells and then jumping out of the bottom asks the front leg to produce maximum force from a deep, stretched position. Working one leg at a time, the quads absorb every landing and fire every takeoff, with the glutes stabilising the hip so the knee tracks clean. It is power training for the lower body and belongs in the plan of anyone who sprints, jumps or plays sport.
Light. This is a power move, so pick a pair that barely dents your jump height, often a fraction of your split squat weight. If the jumps turn into weak hops, drop the load or go bodyweight.
Quiet. Land soft on the front leg, sink into the split squat under control, then explode again. Stiff, loud landings mean you are skipping the absorption half of the exercise, which is where a lot of the value lives.
Not instead, alongside. Split squats build strength through slow, heavy tension, split jumps convert it into power. Run the heavy version first in a session, or keep the jumps for a separate explosive day.
