How to do it

  1. Drop your hands to the floor and kick your feet back into a plank.
  2. Hop your feet back in toward your hands.
  3. Explode straight up into the highest jump you can reach.
  4. Land soft and immediately drop into the next rep.

The one cue that matters

Reach tall on the jump and land with bent knees to absorb the impact.

Muscles worked

This version trades everything for height, out of the plank kick back and hop in, your quads and glutes fire a maximum vertical leap on every single rep. Jumping for full height while your heart rate is redlined teaches your legs to stay explosive under fatigue, which is a different beast from grinding out standard burpees. It earns its place when you want conditioning that keeps a power demand in every rep instead of dissolving into a shuffle.

FAQ

Is there a push-up in a burpee high jump?

Not in this version, it's kick back to plank, hop the feet in, and launch. That keeps your legs fresher so every jump can actually be maximal, and you can always add the chest-to-floor if you want extra punishment.

How high should I actually jump?

As high as you genuinely can, every rep. The moment your jumps become token hops, rest or end the set, half-effort jumps train nothing the regular burpee doesn't.

How do I protect my knees on the landings?

Land on the balls of your feet with bent knees and let your hips absorb the rest. If landings start getting loud or stiff, that's fatigue talking, cut the set there.
